Public Reaction

51

The decision to renew CRHK's licence and to invite applications

for the grant of another commercial radio broadcasting licence will be generally welcomed. Although CRHK may be disappointed with the reduction in the number of frequencies offered to it, the public can be expected to favour both the continuation of CRHK's services and the introduction of a third radio station as offering a wider choice of programmes and fostering more competition. Companies interested in running a commercial radio station will applaud the move.

Publicity

52

CRHK will be informed officially of the Council's decision. A press release will be issued to explain the reasons for the decision and the implications for the future of radio broadcasting in Hong Kong.

(The Secretary for Administrative Services and Information, Mr P.K.Y. TSAO, the Deputy Secretary for Administrative Services and Information, Miss E. CHUNG, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing, Mr P. NG, the Deputy Postmaster General, Mr H. WISE and t he Senior Assistant Crown Solicitor (Commercial), Mr C. BARR will attend for this item.)
