Can you offer Hong Kong any hope that the British policy on

the right of abode will be more flexible than under your

predecessor?

FORRIGE SECRETARY:

I think my predecessor made the policy fairly clear. I wish

to examine the general position of Hong Kong to see what can be done

to help, but I am making no dramatic pronouncements of that sort at

the moment.
