Specifically RTIK is charged with the following:

within the framework of approved sound broadcasting policy to :

(a) provide a reasonable balance of mixed

output in the fields of information, education and entertainment;

(b) provide objective news and public affairs

programming on a year round basis;

(c)

maintain and develop programmes designed to encourage audience participation and community involvement;

(d) maintain and develop programming designed to foster in the community an interest in fine music and the arts.

within the framework of approved television policy to :

maintain and improve the quality of programmes;

progress in Public Affairs output towards the approved targets as far as practicable;

ensure that continuing emphasis is given to the production of programmes in Chinese;

maintain the present scale of output of programmes in Chinese specifically designed to support law and order;

maintain and develop programmes to encourage. audience participation and community involvement;

(f) produce programmes designed for minority groups, including programmes fostering interest in music and the arts; and

(g) produce Educational Television programmes in accordance with the approved policies of the Education Department.
