HONG KONG STANDARD, 20 OCTOBER 1984, MARGARET NG, Piecing together a
view of Hong Kong's future
"The Joint Declaration is a very good thing. Almost all the points raised in the past two years as our gravest concern are covered in the agreement, and all points raised in the agreement are found very reasonable solutions. There is a clear indication that everthing was done to accommodate the wishes of the people in Hong Kong as fully as possible..... The Joint Declaration is therefore a good starting point, it is an achievement truly worth celebrating".
FEER, 25 OCTOBER 1984, Drawing up lines, EMILY LAU.
"Three weeks after the initialling of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, most official bodies, as well as civic and business organisations, have expressed their support for it. Many agree it provides a workable framework in which Hong Kong will be able to preserve its unique economic system and way of life after 1997.
