Dear Department,
21) ü
us,
UK/HK Scholarships 1988-89
As agreed (your telno 2785 of 25 October 1988), I should be grateful if you would arrange payment of £40,000 to being your contribution from FCOSAS towards the above scheme. Details of the scholars' names and cost are in the annex (4 pages) attached. The split of expenses between the parties concerned is as summarized below -
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
(e)
Total expenses £87,317;
50 : 50 split between UK and HK sources £43,658.50;
Contribution from Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club £43,658.50;
Contribution from FCOSAS £40,000 and
Contribution from Sir S K Tang Bequest £3,658.50.
As regards (c) above, the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club has already paid us £36,683.50.
to settle the remaining sum of £6,975.
It has also been asked
As regards (e) above, the Sir S K Tang donation has been held on one month bank deposit here. Its next renewal date is 28 February 1989 and we will arrange to deduct £3,658.50 from its proceeds on due date.
You will notice that the total expenses for this year came to £87,317, slightly less than Our previous estimate of £88,787. This is because Newnham College has mistakenly charged Miss Margaret Chan who reads Geography Science fees rather than Arts fees. Hence there was a refund of £1,230. Also one scholar has not claimed a sum of £240 as his thesis and travelling allowances.
