New boilers and pressure receivers to be
examined before being put into use
12. Section 24(1) is amended by repealing "steam receiver" in both places where it appears and substituting "pressure vessel".
Periodic examination of boilers and pressure receivers
13. (1) Section 27(2) is amended—
(a) in paragraph (a), by repealing "50 000 pounds (or the SI equivalent
namely 22 680 kilograms)" and substituting “22 000 kilograms";
(b) in paragraph (b)(i), by repealing "25 000 pounds (or the SI equivalent
namely 11 340 kilograms)" and substituting "11 000 kilograms";
(c) in paragraph (b)(ii), by repealing "100 000 pounds (or the SI equivalent
namely 45 359 kilograms)" and substituting "45 000 kilograms”.
(2) Section 27 is amended by adding after subsection (2)—
"(2A) Where—
(a) the Authority is satisfied that a boiler or pressure vessel cannot, because of operational requirements, be shut down for an examina- tion required by subsection (1); and
(b) an appointed examiner has examined the boiler or pressure vessel while operating and is satisfied that it could continue to operate safely beyond the period within which the boiler or pressure vessel must be examined under subsection (1),
the Authority may, by notice in writing to the owner, extend that period for not more than 6 months and, if he does so, the relevant certificate of fitness shall remain in force until the end of that extended period.
(2B) Where an appointed examiner or authorized officer issuing a certi- ficate of fitness in respect of a boiler or pressure vessel considers that the boiler or pressure vessel should, in the interests of safety, be examined within a shorter period than that specified in subsection (1), he shall notify the Authority of that fact and the Authority may, by endorsement on the certi- ficate, shorten the period.".

14. Section 30 is amended by repealing "steam pressure or water".
Appeals from refusal of appointed examiner
to issue certificate of fitness
15. Section 34(2)(a) is amended by repealing ", and, within 7 days after the copies are delivered to him, the owner shall deliver them to the Registrar".
Procedure on, and method of, examination of boilers
16. Section 38 is amended-
(a) by repealing "and" at the end of subsection (1)(c);
