BACKGROUND

Mr Tony Banks takes a keen interest in endangered species and

so far this year has tabled twelve questions on this subject for

answer by FCO Ministers.

As the result of the Hong Kong Government's recent review of

their policy towards the ivory trade, a special Customs Task Force

was set up in June 1989 to combat the illegal trade in ivory through

Hong Kong.
