AFRICAN ELEPHANTS : LETTERS FROM MPs

1. The DOE, who have the lead on policy towards African elephants,

have agreed that it is right that they should reply to letters on

this topic. Occasionally letters may refer to action being taken overseas such as Hong Kong. On those occasions I suggest it should

be a matter for negotiation between DOE and the FCO Geographical

Department involved as to who might be best placed to provide an

answer (MAED remain ready to provide advice as necessary).

2.

Accordingly, I would be grateful if you and Ministerial Offices would arrange for all letters on African elephants to be directed to

the DOE in the first place.
