Disposal of Live Endangered Species

From time to time, live endangered animals are come into our possession as a result of CITES enforcement work In view of our limited resources in keeping such a variety of animals (ranging from butterflies to tigers) and difficulties in keeping some animals for long in captivity, they have to be disposed of urgently.

In order that the urgent disposal can meet the CITES guidelines, I should be grateful if you would request CITES Secretariat to issue a notification on our behalf (or in fact, it can be a general notification as other parties may be facing the same problem) to request party states to accept or to recommend recognised zoos and scientific/ educational institutes to accept animals intercepted on the basis that the recipient organizations meet the full cost of delivery.

The common examples we encounter are as follows :-

Asiatic Bony Tongue fish

Giant Salamander

Primates (Slow Loris, Marmosets, Monkeys)

Burmese Python

Land Tortoise

Parrots, parakeets

Thank you for your assistance.

Best wishes,

Yours faithfully,
