And I am sure that it is right, so far and as fact as we can

anke progress in that direction, for Hong Kong's internal security

to be based not upon soldiers from anywhere else but upon her own

lice Furce.

So I think that is a good reason for being reluctant to lean

any more than we have to on the Gurkhas or anybody else. All

decisions of course can be reconsidered.

All decisions at all times are capable of reconsideration.

Bu the point I am making, the central point, is that for Bong

Kong's own interests it is best to make as steady progress as

possible towards having internal security based firmly and

progressively on its own police force.

QUESTION (Kute Adle, BBC TV):

You say in one of your points that you are going to take back

from this meeting that Peking needs to take positive action to

restore confidence which is a fine thought. Vhat evidence does Ber

Kajesty's Government have of trust being held in the Peking

Government? It is one thing for hope, what evidence do you have

that the Government of Britain and the people of Hong Kong can trust
