The Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (RHKAAF) is to be expanded to take over many of the existing roles of the garrison helicopter squadrons, when these are withdrawn in the run-up to 1997, and to provide an enhanced search and rescue service. At the same time, it will become a civilian disciplined service. It is necessary to decide whether its members should be paid on the General Disciplined Services pay scale.

RECOMMENDATION AND ADVICE SOUGHT

It is recommended that the following policy proposal be implemented -

(a) the RHKAAF should be ret it led as the

(b)

On 18 November 1986, Members considered memorandum XCX(86)207, which set out the future tasks of the RHKAAF and the equipment, manpower and accommodation required to meet Members advised that approval should be sought from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council for funds effect the expansion programme set out in the memorandum.
