The Reformatory Schools Ordinance, Cap. 225 is available for youthful offenders (i.e. between the age of

7 and 16). Section 17 of that Ordinance allows the court to order the youthful offender detained in a reformatory school. for a period of not less than one year and not more than five years for an offence punishable, in the case of an adult, by a fine or by imprisonment.

Drug Addiction Treatment Centres also exist in Hong Kong and are regularised by the D.A.T.C. Ordinance, Cap. 244. Section 4 of that Ordinance provides for detention in these

Centres for relevant offences i.e. offences for which imprisonment

is a possible sentence other than for non-payment of a fine.

The Mental Health Ordinance, Cap. 136 provides for detention in Psychiatric Centres in suitable cases following

upon medical reports.

15.

Section 1098 of the Criminal Procedure Ordinance,

Cap. 221 allows the court to suspend a prison sentence of not more than two years for all offences except those included in

the Third Schedule to that Ordinance.

16.

Section 1134 of the Criminal Procedure Ordinance,

Cap. 221 provides the court with the power to impose fines in lieu of or in addition to dealing with offenders in other ways

subject to certain limitations.

17.

Sections 72 and 73 of Cap. 221 allow the court to make - orders for costs or compensation in addition to other penalties which it may be appropriate to impose.

18.

Section 107 of Cap. 221 allows the court in cases where it is inexpedient, to inflict any punishment, or any other than a nominal punishment, to make an order discharging the offender conditionally-
