It is proposed that if a person practises as foreign lawyer or holds himself out as having been admitted as a foreign lawyer without first obtaining permission under the proposed new provisions of the Ordinance he will commit an offence and be liable to a fine of $50,000.
Foreign Law Firms
3.11
It is proposed to amend the Ordinance to empower the Court to permit firms to practise as foreign law firms, to revoke or suspend such permission in certain circumstances, to provide for the qualification of foreign law firms, to provide for a register of foreign law firms and to remove restrictions on multi-jurisdictional practices and rules relating to the practice of Hong Kong
law.
