MP's LETTER: THE COURT INTERPRETERS' ASSOCIATION OF HONG KONG

7.

Problem

A 1.

A letter from David Mudd MP, about discontent in the Hong

Kong Court Interpreters' Association.

Recommendation

B

2.

I recommend that Lord Glenarthur replies on the lines of

the attached draft, which is based on information provided by the

Hong Kong Government.

3.

This is a matter which falls squarely within the

responsibility of the Hong Kong Government. But from the

information they have provided it seems clear that they have been

dealing with the matter in a reasonable way. It is equally clear

that this is a potentially important issue: the interpreters will

have a growing role in what will increasingly be bilingual courts.
