PUBLIC PRESENTATION

1. Mr Maude agreed with the gameplan set out in your submission of 13 October. He discussed this briefly with the Secretary of State before the latter departed for Kuala Lumpur, and the Secretary of State too expressed himself largely content.

Matters have of course moved on, and so the gameplan is now in abeyance. Mr Maude believes, however, that we should remain ready to activate it, as soon as we have decided on our new strategy - and in particular the timing of the first repatriation exercise.
