CLEARANCE FOR FORMER HKG OFFICIAL TO WORK IN HANOI EMBASSY

I attach a set of telegrams about a Mr Peter Hugh Walker, who has been put forward as a candidate by the Hong Kong Government to undertake some specialised work at our Embassy in Hanoi. The

telegrams are, I hope, self explanatory, but for an additional word of background: The work Mr Walker would undertake, if appointed, would be to monitor the conditions of former boat people who had been screened out (ie determined not to be refugees) in Hong Kong and who had been repatriated.

2. I should be grateful if you could check to see whether there would be any objection to Mr Walker working in the Embassy in Hanoi.
