Thank you for your letter of 17 August on behalf of Mr Cliff Reece of the "Hong Kong 3000 Foundation".

I was interested to hear about the establishment of this new group. We welcome any initiative designed to rebuild confidence in Hong Kong and to raise the level of international support for the territory. doing all that we can towards that end.

I am sorry that because of other commitments I will not be able to see Mr Reece while he is in London. Unfortunately, Robin McLaren, the Under Secretary of State responsible for Asia will also be away. But I am sure that Rosalind Marsden, the Acting Head of Hong Kong Department would be happy to see Mr Reece. She can be contacted on 270 2650.
