The Party Leaders understand the grave concern felt by the people of

Hong Kong following the Tiananmen Square massacre. The Leaders

consider this to be a problem for the whole international community

and urge their Governments to join the United Kingdom in the

important task of restoring confidence among the people of Hong

Kong. The Leaders also call on the Chinese authorities to

demonstrate by their actions that they remain committed to the

Sino-British Joint Declaration on the future of Hong Kong.
