2. I should be grateful if Departments would supply draft contributions/briefs as set out in the list below. Because of the Easter break and the Prime Minister's and Secretary of State's absences abroad, I am afraid we have to set early deadlines: close of play on 13 March for the Prime Ministerial letter and close of play on 16 March for the Secretary of State's briefs. There may of course be a need for updating immediately before the visit. Given the number of topics covered, briefs should be kept as short as possible, with background in particular kept to a minimum. should be sent to George Edgar in W101 (270 2421).

Contributions

I should be grateful if Departments would provide_WP discs. We already have discs for the briefing prepared for the visit originally scheduled for December: where changes to the briefing are only minor, we should be happy to amend our own discs if Departments would indicate where alterations are

necessary.
