Know this was mentioned when your Mr. Roelants (Belgian Secretary

General) met with the PUS here.

Grateful for confirmation that your Government can agree to the

establishment of a Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels

to deal with Economic Community matters separate from our Embassy.

We attach importance to establishment of these offices, which

will allow Hong Kong to conduct her own economic and trade relations

after 1997.

Chinese have been consulted and have raised no

objections. Hope we can conclude practical arrangements as soon as possible.
