Your Secretary of State may wish to know that my Minister held a short private meeting recently with Martin Barrow, Managing Director of Jardine Matheson, Hong King and member of the Legislative Council.
Mr Barrow said that he was keen to encourage British cultural investment in Hong Kong to establish links that would persist beyond the end of British rule. My Minister welcomed this idea and asked Barrow to provide more detailed propositions in due course, which he agreed to do. The Minister also intends to ask the British Council for a report on their current cultural work in Hong Kong.
