said that the British Government was totally devoid

of sincerity in giving Hong Kong an "insurance policy."

He regarded Sir Geoffrey Howe's visit as merely a

window-dressing exercise.

A housewife in Tai Koo Shing said that she

saw no point in Sir Geoffrey's visit since he had

adamantly refused to listen to the voice of Hong Kong

people and certainly he needed not travel this far

to buy mangoes.

said that he was disgusted at the
