Dear Sir,
Mr Paul His
Adnie please.
I am informed that the Foreign Secretary, Sir Geoffrey Howe, intends to visit Hong Kong in July with a primary objective to improve confidence among the people in the territory.
Naturally we, in the media, also have this objective and I would venture to suggest that the single most effective method for Sir Geoffrey to achieve it would be for him to answer unsolicited and unfiltered questions from the general public during a broadcast.
I would like to offer such an opportunity under conditions which the public know are completely free from any kind of official control. Telephone calls are broadcast live without even a 7 second delay.
I would be delighted if Sir Geoffery would accept an invitation to my studio and in the interests of the wellbeing of Hong Kong I would be happy to make the Show available to him at any scheduled time during his visit and for as long as he likes.
I am confident that if Sir Geoffery were to take part in such a free and open discussion any mistrust of officialdom would be swept aside and his views would be most readily accepted as sincere and dependable. I suspect he too would benefit from such direct contact with listeners concerns.
I have been host of the talk back programme for 13 years and never has my audience been in such need of the contribution that Sir Geoffery could make.
Mr. Mchare
This could
backfire Woo
Yours faithfully,
