Dear Charles,

Hong Kong: Call on the Prime Minister

by Dame Lydia Dunn

We have heard from the Governor that Dame Lydia Dunn is very much looking forward to her call on the Prime Minister on 3 October. She has asked us to pass on the following message.

"Dear Charles

I was delighted to receive your letter through the Governor and to hear that the Prime Minister is available to see me on Tuesday, 3 October at 4pm. I confirm that the date and time are convenient.

It is good to hear that the Prime Minister will stress the need for Japanese support for Hong Kong during her visit to Tokyo. It will be much appreciated by the Hong Kong community.

Michael joins me in sending warmest good wishes to you and Carla.

Yours sincerely Lydia Dunn"

Dame Lydia Dunn has asked whether the meeting would be private ie not publicly announced. She thinks this would be easier to handle. We agree. Otherwise she will immediately face hordes of reporters outside No.10 and the right of abode issue will inevitably be given great prominence. She is not worried about any embarrassment to herself if it later leaks that she has had a private meeting.

I would be grateful if you could indicate whether or not you wish to announce the meeting. We will then arrange for a message to be passed to Dame Lydia.

Your ever;

(RH T Gozney)
