EMIGRATION
Recognise that this is a subject of concern to many people in Hong Kong. We are following trends carefully. Welcome decision of
Hong Kong Government that task force should monitor problem.
No easy solutions: efforts should be concentrated on
maintaining Hong Kong as place where people wish to make their
lives.
Steadily improving living standards and quality of life make
Hong Kong a very attractive place to live.
REPEAL OF SECTION 27 OF THE PUBLIC ORDER ORDINANCE
Know that Section 27 gave rise to much concern in Hong Kong and internationally. Hong Kong Government deserve credit for responding
to concern by moving to repeal that Section.
ANGLO HONG KONG TRUST
HMG welcomes this initiative to promote two way trade and investment between UK and Hong Kong. British investment in Hong
Kong has been steadily increasing in the past decade: we want this
trend to continue.
Contracts between Britain and Hong Kong in the business and
cultural fields are already extensive: but we are keen to see such
contacts continue to expand.
Anglo Hong Kong Trust is of course a private venture. But as
mark of HMG's approval of its aims, I will be co-hosting with the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry an inaugural dinner for
the Trust at Lancaster House in March.
