STATEMENT

CONFIDENCE IN HONG KONG'S FUTURE

July 14, 1989

The Tien An Men Square incident on June 4 has

4 has indelibly shattered the confidence of the great majority of Hong Kong's 5.6 million people in the future of Hana Kong after 1997,

Inevitable, an Increasingly large number of long Kong people will

be emigrating to countries outside of Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Government, OMELCO and various groups have embarked upon a compaign to seek for Hong Kong British passport holders the right of abode in Britain as a means of reducing the flow of emigration and retaining key administrators, professional and technical talents, in the coming years.
