1. The Ambassador has received a letter of thanks from Bernd Dieckmann, Culture Councillor for the City of Düsseldorf concerning the recent events in Peking. His daughter, who is studying at the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University was spending one year in Peking. Miss Dieckmann was among the students accommodated by members of the Embassy after the outbreak of violence on 4 June.

2. Herr Dieckmann wished to express his gratitude for your excellent treatment of the students, of whatever nationality, in providing accommodation in Peking, arranging the evacuation and later to members of the British authorities in Hong Kong for lodging the students. Herr Dieckmann has asked that his thanks be passed on to you.
