We both agreed that we should not be defensive on our conservation efforts so far on Diego Garcia. We have the Framework Plan for Conservation for Diego Garcia agreed in April 1987. Ted Wile also mentioned the Supplemental Arrangements of 1982 relating to the Diego Garcia Facility signed on 13 December 1982

(copy attached). He also gave me a copy of a paper entitled "Diego Garcia Atoll: Ecological Considerations" by Grazia Walker of the University of Maryland dated August 1986 which is very favourable about the ecological state of the island.
