"FRAGMENTS OF PARADISE"

CONSERVATION IN THE DEPENDENT TERRITORIES:

I refer to your letter to the Governor, Anguilla, of 27 November.

1.

2. We had already obtained a copy of this book from the Library. As you know we have maintained a dialogue with Wildlife Link on Antarctic issues since 1985. Our efforts in this respect have been acknowledged in the book (top of p.31). The less critical line adopted in respect of the BAT is in part, I think, due to the existence of this dialogue and the "involvement" which Wildlife Link believe they enjoy.

3. It is a pity that we were not asked to advise the author at the draft stage. Much of the factual material on Antarctica is out-dated and some minor errors of fact have crept in. Where the author's views depart from those of HMG there is nothing new and our mutual positions have been long understood on both sides.
