Putting the trade figures in perspective, Hong Kong incurred a visible trade deficit of HK$11,651 million with China in the first half year of 1988, compared with a deficit of HK$13,843 million in the same period in 1987. For 1987 as a whole, Hong Kong's visible trade deficit with China was HK$29,315 million.
