In 1988 re-exports of South Korean origin amounted to HK$13.1 billion or 4.7% of Hong Kong's total re-exports. Of re-exports of South Korean origin, 73.2% or HK$9.6 billion were re-exported to China. This trade has grown by 90.4% p.a., since 1979 when the value of re-exports of South Korean origin to China was only HK$29 million or 5.7% of Hong Kong's re-exports of South Korean origin. Thus, China has become a more important market for South Korea's exports via Hong Kong.
