Dear Chriss, Enter the Choi
HONG KONG AND MACAO AFFAIRS OFFICE (HKMAO), MFA : PERSONALITY NOTES
1. Thank you for your letter of 8 May and the suggested amendments, which have been duly incorporated. I hope to issue an update of the personality notes in late June before Carsten Pigott's departure on MTL. We are planning to hold another Embassy barbeque before then and hope that that may provide an opportunity to acquire more information.

2. As you note in your letter, our contacts with HKMAO, State Council were severely limited. Until recently we had only met members of their first division, although we briefly met some of the second division at the airport when meeting John Chan and his delegation. At present our information is so meagre that a personality note would be worthless. However, I shall make a conscious effort to change this, and inclusion of HKMAO State Council Members in our barbeque should provide an opportunity to make a start. Another source of information would be the delegations from Hong Kong, like John Chan's, which are hosted by the State Council. I should be grateful for anything that Hong Kong learn.
3. I agree that a similiar exercise for the Chinese JLG team would be useful. Graham Leicester might like to update the personality notes we provided for them in June last year.
Yours Gver
SC Riordan
