This was a very useful round up of current developments and changes in Macao. I was interested in your comments on

localisation; it is encouraging to see some sign of progress but the contrast between the situation in Macao and that in Hong Kong is still stark. On the economic side I am sure you are right in pointing to the new airport as part of a series of programmes aimed at (arguably belatedly) leaving a legacy in Macao and providing a underpinning for economic confidence. I am bound to say however that I find the prospects for the airport hard to fathom all the more since the announcement of the plans for Hong Kong's own new airport. It is hard to see any Macao airport offering much by way of competition. Perhaps Gordon Wu's scheme for a bridge linking Macao and Hong Kong would be a better bet.
