Dear Mr Priestley,

Anglo-Taiwan Trade Committee

I refer to your letter ref. A-ANG/TAI of 24 August to Mr Hall, which was also copied to me.

Anglo Taiwan Trade Committee

This Committee does not handle visas for Hong Kong. Apart from the special arrangement to handle UK Entry certificates for Taiwanese in Taiwan, the Trade Committee is strictly speaking, not а visa post.

As Her Majesty's Government, and consequently the Hong Kong Government, does not recognise the administration in Taiwan, residents of Taiwan therefore require visas to come to Hong Kong. Since there is no British visa post in the territory, Taiwanese have to submit their

their visa applications to us through a number of authorised airlines. Visas, if approved, are then issued to applicants in the form of entry permits also through the handling airlines. arrangement has been in operation since 1972 when the British Consulate in Taiwan was closed.
