Though I believe that you have moved from the Foreign Office, you may recall that I gave you an Aide-Memoire about the possibility of Taiwan being prepared to receive some of their compatriots from Hong Kong should the need arise. I discussed this in confidence with Mr. Liou Jieh-Jow who in turn will consult with Dr. Jason Hu and General Wego Chiang in the most general terms. He thought that it might be quite likely that consideration will be given. was made clear to Mr. Jieh-Jow that in no way was this an official request but it was just a sounding out of the views of some important friends of his in Taiwan.
