Article 137: The reference to the development of western and

traditional Chinese medicine has now been reinserted.

Article 159: This article was deleted and its provisions

transposed to Annexes I and II and the draft NPC resolution on the

formation of the first SARG.

Annex I and the draft NPC resolution on the formation of the first

SAR Government Three changes were made to enable Hong Kong delegates to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as in the April draft, to be represented on the election committee

for the Chief Executive.

Annex III: The "Electoral Law of the NPC and the People's

Congresses at Various Levels of the PRC" was deleted from the list

of nationwide laws applicable in the SAR. In addition all the

short-listed designs for the SAR flag were rejected.

6. Li Hou stressed to reporters after the meeting that the political provisions in the draft could still be amended further. He asked all people in Hong Kong to make an effort to co-ordinate

their views and to narrow down their differences. The BLDC would

then find it easier to make a decision in future deliberations on

the text.

There were calls from the liberal lobby during the meeting for an opinion poll to be held in Hong Kong after the revised text of the Basic Law is published. Senior officials were cautious about the idea, but have stated that there will be a consultation period

on the revised text, of a similar length to the first one.
