14 I very much appreciated the message of welcome which you passed

15. to me on behalf of Members of the Executive Council and yourself.

16 These are difficult and testing times for Hong Kong: I hope to

an opportunity to pay an early visit to the territory to

12 meet as many people as possible and to assess the situation for

19 myself. Hong Kong will be a very important priority for me, as

20 it was for my predecessor. I shall be approaching the subject

21 with the same sense of personal commitment as he did.
