1. To reassure Committee that work is going ahead as quickly as

possible.

Points to Make

Working urgently to identify suitably prominent and prestigious

site for future Consulate General. A team of FCO officials visited

Hong Kong in October for detailed consultations.

Will make announcement as soon as possible.

Cannot comment until a site is chosen. But see no scope for using

HMS Tamar site.
