Prospects of early resettlement for refugees?

At Geneva Conference in June, international community pledged to resettle all refugees in region, including those in Hong Kong within

next 3 years.

-

As part of that process, UK pledged to take a further 2,000 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong in addition to the 13,000 already

resettled here since 1975.

By which routes are boat people arriving in Hong Kong?

Evidence suggests that most of them either stop several times along the South China coast or travel over land through China, only making last part of journey by boat. See route map.

Have taken this up with Chinese on a number of occasions. Assured us that they are doing everything possible to bring problem of coast hopping under control. Will continue to press for their

cooperation.
