I submit a first draft of points to make and background material
for Mr Maude's appearance before the Foreign Affairs Committee on
13 December. Mr Maude will be giving follow up evidence on the Government's interim reply to the Committee's Hong Kong Report and
evidence on the provision for Vietnamese boat people in the Winter Supplementary Estimates.
2.
We will revise the briefing next week to take account of Mr
Maude's views on format etc. We will also provide further briefing
on Vietnamese boat people in the light of developments next week.
3. The Committee Clerk will let us have an indication of the line
of questioning on Monday 11 December. We can cover those and other
points at the briefing meeting to be held before 13 December.
