FUTURE CONSULATE GENERAL

Working urgently to identify suitably prominent and prestigious

site for future Consulate General. A team of FCO officials visited

Hong Kong in October for detailed consultations with Hong Kong.

- Aim is to have a presence which will reflect importance of

continuing our commitment to Hong Kong.

Intend to make an announcement about our plans for Consulate

General as soon as possible.

- Not appropriate to comment on possible sites under consideration.

But as Committee knows, the Government see no scope for using HMS

Tamar site.
