Stationing of PLA in Hong Kong
- Well aware of importance of this issue to Hong Kong people, especially following of 3/4 June.
Joint Declaration provides for China to station military forces in Hong Kong SAR for defence purpose. Also stipulates that those military forces shall not interfere in SAR's internal affairs.
Believe Chinese are in no doubt about importance of this question for confidence in Hong Kong.
As you know, we have urged the Chinese Government to take Hong Kong's sensitivities fully into account in their handling of this issue.
Shall continue to do so in JLG.
