PUBLICATION OF REPORT ON HONG KONG

1.

The Committee has agreed to the Report which will be published as the Second Report (Volume I) (HC, 1988-89,281-1) on Friday 30 June at 12 noon. The Chairman will hold a Press Conference at 12 noon in Committee Room 15. It is expected that the Press Conference will be broadcast live in Hong Kong.

2.

As publication of the report has been expedited,

no advance copies can be made available. Copies of the published report will however be available at the Press Conference and, for witnesses, in the Committee Office until 3.00pm at which time uncollected copies will be posted.

3. It is hoped to make a photocopied version of the report simultaneously available in Hong Kong. The arrangements for this will be announced by the Hong Kong Government Information Service.

4.

Volume II which will contain the Minutes of Evidence and Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence (HC, 1988-89,281-II) will be published in mid-July. A later Press Notice will announce the exact date of publication.

EASTERN EUROPE AND THE SOVIET UNION: FOLLOW UP EVIDENCE

Following receipt of the Government Reply (Cm 708) to the Committee's First Report (HC, 1988-89,16) the Committee has decided to take oral evidence. from The Hon Mr William Waldegrave MP, Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, on the reply. The session will take place on Wednesday 19 July at 10.30am in Committee Room 8.
