Can I just praas you on that point about the Chinese

People's Republic always honouring their international

treaty obligatione?

SIR DAVID VILSON:

That is quite correct, they have changed internal

policies very dramatically, they have always honoured

international agreemanta.

MR BOVEN WELLS:

And therefore wo can look forward to them honouring

the international obligations which they entered into

under the Joint Declaration in 1984 and after 19077

SIR DAVID VILSON:

Ve must look forward to them honouring that and

Britain has a clear commitment to make sure that those

obligations are honoured.

MR IVAN LAVRENCH :

Sir David, it is very difficult at this very emotive

time to see too much of a silver lining on this

particularly horrifyingly dark cloud that has been looming

over the East these past weeks, but is it not an

imperative of future Chinese activity that they are
