TRANSCRIPT OF MEETING OF
SELECT COMMITTEE OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
ON WEDNESDAY, 24 MAY 1989
HKB 011/3
TRANSCRIPT H (CONTINUED FROM TRANSCRIPT G)
CHAIRMAN:
Velcome! Thank you and your Colleagues for sparing
time to be with us this afternoon and to help us in our
currant studies into the situation in Hong Kong and
particularly into the nationality issue" so-called which,
was raised very frequently with this Committee
of course,
during its recent visit to the Territory.
I think we are particularly glad, if I may strike a
personal note, that we are able to have your advice and
expertise because, of course, in a previous incarnation as
Kinister of State at the Foreign Office, you were able to
deal with some of the complexities of this issue with
great skill and at first hand and therefore you are
uniquely placed in being able to assist us.
I wonder if, for the purpose of assisting the
transcribers, you could just introduce your two colleagues
so that goes on the record and then I understand after
that you would like to make a short opening statement.

Private notes are available after approval.
