Citizenship
4. A person can apply for Canadian citizenship if, within the four years prior to the date of the application, he/she has been resident
in Canada for three years. Any days that the person was resident here before he/she became a landed immigrant are counted as half
days towards the qualifying period of three years and no absences of
more than 183 days are allowed. After an application is received an
applicant must prove at a citizenship hearing that he/she has an
adequate knowledge of Canada and of the two official languages. Citizenship would then be confirmed at a citizenship ceremony.
