FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE ENQUIRY INTO HONG KONG: NATIONALITY

1. The Foreign Affairs Committee have asked us to provide a

supplementary memorandum describing the Nationality and Immigration

policies of the US, Canada and Australia. The Committee have

expressed particular interest in the requirements for acquiring settlement and citizenship in those countries (compared to the UK) and the operation of their quota systems.

2. The Committee would like to see the memorandum if possible before Mr Renton gives evidence on nationality issues on 24 May. It will then be published together with the Home Office memorandum.

I suggest that we hand it over when you see the Committee today.
