The Secretary of State has seen your submission of 28 April.
He agrees that it would be nice to have clarification of the Chinese position on the nationality matter. He would however prefer to find some other way of getting it. He does not favour asking the Ambassador to ask a Chinese Minister to confirm that British nationality law and immigration regulations are Britain's internal affair. I think he would be content for enquiries to be made of a lower ranking Chinese official, perhaps a member of the JLG office in Hong Kong.
