By British citizenship
1.
A person who, prior to 1 January 1983, was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (CUKC) has a claim to the right of abode if he or she :
10.
was born, adopted, naturalised or registered in the UK; or
had a parent who at the time of the claimant's birth or legal adoption had CUKC status by birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in the UK; or
C.
had a grandparent who, at the time of the claimant's birth or adoption nad CUKC status by birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in the UK;
or
d. was ordinarily resident in the UK for a continuous period of 5 years or more prior to 1 January 1983, and during that period was not in breach of the immigration laws, and at the end of that period did not have any time limit attached to his or her stay; or
e. was then, or had previously been, the wife of a man with the right of abode.
B.
Persons establishing a claim to the right of abode under the above criteria became British citizens on 1 January 1983
Through Commonwealth citizenship
2.
A Commonwealth citizen has a claim to the right of abode if, prior to 1 January 1983, he or she:
had a parent who at the time of the claimant's birth or legal adoption was a CUKC by virtue of birth in the UK; or
a.
b. was, or had been, the wife of a man with the right of abode.
