FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
1.
P
ORAL HEARING ON 3 MAY
The PUS will appear before the Foreign Affairs Committee on 3 May to discuss a number of issues arising from memoranda submitted by the FCO on the Public Expenditure White Paper and the Supply Estimates. The Clerk to the Committee has already given us a list of the likely issues the Committee may wish to discuss. Quite typically that list strays beyond the subjects covered by our memoranda.
2. The Clerk has said that he may get in touch with us on 27 or 28 April after the Committee returns from its tour of China and Hong Kong to warn us of any further issues the Committee may wish to raise at the hearing on 3 May. Since 1 May is a Bank Holiday, we will have very limited time to prepare extra briefing for the PUS.
3.
It is quite possible that the Committee may have issues to raise arising directly from their tour. Can I suggest that you ask the Posts being visited to give you an immediate report of subjects which seemed to be of particular interest to the Committee, in case we have to prepare extra last-minute briefing for the PUS? I imagine that in any case you will wish to give the PUS some background briefing for 3 May.
Tel. drefted.
